Sampada Mandke [Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana]

Hindustani classical music is a unique heritage. It is perhaps the only form of music which has a seemingly rigid structure, but within which every exponent has unlimited scope for expansion as well as personal expression and interpretation.
Against this backdrop, Sampada Mandke - Vipat is one of the most versatile and promising artiste of the younger generation. She is an ardent disciple of legendary Pandita Mrs. Manik Bhide of the Jaipur-Atroli Gharana.
Born in 1974, the early manifestation of her talent saw her begin training at the age of seven. Her initial teacher was Mrs. Sudha Bhalerao and during this tenure she acquired the 'Sangeet Visharad' from Gandharv Mahavidyalaya. Further she holds a Master's degree from the Centre for Performing Arts, (Lalit Kala Kendra) University of Pune, perhaps the only institution among the Indian Universities that offers full-time professional and residential courses of education in the performing arts, in the "Gurukul" tradition. For her masters course she presented a thesis on "The comparative aspects of classical and semi-classical music" under the expert guidence of Dr. Vikas Kashalkar and Pandit Ajay Pohankar.

Sampada is equally at ease for performing semi-classical forms like Thumri, Dadra and Ghazals, for which she received rigorous training under the able guidance of pandit Dr. Sanjiv Shende, disciple of Thumri queen Shobha Gurtu. Here, the main style being Banarasi, nonetheless includes a fusion of Punjabi and Lakhnavi 'baz'.
Over the years Sampada has given brilliant performances in many prestigious concerts like Savai Gandharva Mahotsav Kundgol, Swarsagar Sangeet Mahotsava, Nadbramha, Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, Mumbai and many major music conferences in India. Also she has been invited to perform in many National and International cultural events organised by the University of Pune. A few plays have had the background music composed by her and she is associated with All India Radio, Pune too.

n addition to this, she is conducting workshops and seminars for post-graduate students of the SNDT University.
Sampada is both, musically and academically talented and has been gifted with a unique texture of voice which skillfully exploits the medium to convey the essence of the emMrs. Manik Bhideotions of a 'Raga' or 'bandish' straight to the 'listener's heart where it strikes a chord, even in the uninitiated. Apart from technical excellence, her contemplation in music is reflected aesthetically in her style. Her performances at various places at pilgrimage have invoked the blessing of the Almighty. She believes that this has added that Vital, intangible element to her skills; an element which is so essential to raise one's rendition to a plane higher than mere technical excellence. In fact it is this divine blessing which every artist seeks during his or her 'Sadhana'.
