Hindustani Classical Raagas (Indian Classical Melodies)
Raag Bhairav

Raag Bhairav is a Sampoorna Raag. i.e. seven notes in Aaroh (ascending order) and avaroh (descending order). This is an ancient morning melody and is named after one of the guardians of Kailash. Raag Bhairav depicts mood of solemnity. In Hindustani classical music, there are various types of Bhairav. Namely Nat Bhirav, Shivmat Bhiarav, Mangal Bhirav, Prabhat Bhirav, Ahir Bhairav. Bhairav Bahar is one of the beautiful culminations of Bhairav with Bahar (a night melody).
There are some melodies like Raag Gauri (morning melody on same scale), Raag Kalingada (melancholy in nature and originated in Kalinga) which go on similar scale but are different in mood. Shuddha Madhyam Gauri has similar notes but is not at all solemn but fickle in nature.
Traditional compositions in Bhairav:
Aaj Nandlal Sakhi - Taal Jhaptaal
Balamawa - Tilwada
Jago Mohan Pyare (Teental)
Piya Milan ki Bari (Drut Teental)
