Raag Vrindavani Sarang
Vrindavani Sarang is an afternoon melody and was created in 'Vrindavan' as its name suggests, in service to 'Shreenath'. The services are called 'Asthayam'. This lovely afternoon melody is very old and references can be found in Sharang Deva's Sangeet Ratnakar.
Aaroh: Sa Re Ma Pa Ni Sa^
Avaroh: Sa Ni_ Pa Ma Re Sa
In this Raag, both Nishads are used and 'Nyas' swar/note is Rishabh (Re). This is a pentatonic melody. Scholars say that effective rendering of Raag Sarang gives peace of mind.
Some traditional compositions are:
Ban ban dhoondhan jaoo (Teental)
Jaoo mai tope balihari (Teental)
Piya lagi lagi basak kino (Vilambit Tilwada)
Na bolo Sham hamisan (Teental)
There are various types of Sarang and these are rendered in the afternoon. To name a few: Madhmad Sarang, Gaud Sarang, Samant Sarang
