What is an Art?

Art in general is that magic instrumentality by means of which human mind reveals to human senses the mystery; which is called "The Beautiful".

Art is an expression of creative mind and it reflects personality of an artiste. In the realm of art, contact with the 'Beautiful' is first established by drawing our attention to the close similarity between the beauties of Art and the beauties of Nature.

The beauties of nature are however the result of physical facts and are inseparable from their material cause. The beauties of art, on the other hand are an address to the inward mind and have existence in the mental consciousness. They are indeed beyond the reach of physical facts or pure nature and do not find a true, much less a full, expression in them.

Art is 'Abstract' but gives us the idea of 'Reality' and is a necessity of day-to-day life.

Aesthetics

Aesthetics means the philosophy of the 'Beautiful'. It is the science of expressive representation of imaginative activity.

Aesthetics is the branch of knowledge whose function is to investigate what to be asserted when we write or talk correctly about beauty. It is connected to the perception of values.

Huntermead says: "Aesthetics is primarily the systematic analysis of man's urge to create pressure and understand what is conventionally called 'Beauty' or 'The Beautiful'".
